A housing application was enclosed in the information brochure that was sent to you by the Department of Residence Life. You can either submit the hard-copy application or apply on-line at http://reslife.tamu.edu. The student's UIN must be on the housing application to ensure accurate processing. Please follow the instructions for completing the application and submit the application as soon as possible.
If you choose to apply on-line, go to http://reslife.tamu.edu and follow the instructions. You must already be admitted to Texas A&M University to apply using the hard-copy application or the on-line method. You should use only one of the available methods to apply. Applicants for on-campus housing are prioritized by the date their application and deposit (or waiver request) are received in the Department of Residence Life - Housing Assignments Office or Corps Housing. In the case where the electronic method is used, the application date will be determined by the date the application is submitted on-line.
A $300 housing deposit and $25 non-refundable application fee must accompany the housing application. Please submit a check or money order. Credit card payments are accepted if applying on-line. Cash deposits are not accepted. Make checks payable to "Texas A&M University - Housing Assignments Office." All checks are deposited within three business days. Within four weeks after submitting the application, Corps Housing will forward a letter of notification along with a housing contract.
The housing deposit is retained on file with the University as long as the student is housed on-campus. The deposit is used against unnecessary wear and damages to the room, to deter against late reservation cancellations and to maintain applications in the active file. The deposit is not applied toward housing costs (rent). Deposits will be refunded upon the student's request if the cancellation criteria are met (as noted in housing contract). No matter who pays the deposit, it becomes the property of the student applicant and will be refunded only to the student applicant. The student, in person or in writing, must make a request for refunds to the Housing Assignments Office or to Corps Housing.
If the student is going to receive financial aid, then the student may be eligible for the housing deposit waiver. When applying for housing before April, any student that applies for the housing deposit waiver MUST have a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on file with the Department of Student Financial Aid by late April. If you are applying for housing after April, you may request the housing deposit waiver, but make sure your FAFSA is on file as soon as possible. Anyone who does not have a FAFSA on file will be denied the housing deposit waiver.
A housing deposit waiver form was enclosed in the information brochure sent to you by the Department of Residence Life. The housing deposit waiver form is also available on-line at http://reslife.tamu.edu or by contacting Corps Housing. The completed housing deposit waiver form will be forwarded to the Department of Student Financial Aid for consideration and approval/disapproval. Anyone submitting a housing deposit waiver form also needs to submit the $25 non-refundable application fee. Do not send the $300 housing deposit.
Housing Space Offer Letter and Housing Contracts
Housing with the Corps of Cadets is guaranteed so long as the student applicant is joining the Corps of Cadets and maintains active membership. Even though housing is guaranteed in the Corps of Cadets, preferences for a specific dormitory, dorm room or roommate are not guaranteed.
Regardless if you apply for housing using the hard-copy application or on-line, you should expect a space offer letter from Corps Housing within four weeks after submitting the application (along with the $25 non-refundable application fee and $300 housing deposit or housing deposit waiver form). A copy of the housing contract will also be enclosed. The student applicant should complete the contract and return the white copy to Corps Housing (the yellow copy should be retained by the student applicant). Returning the housing contract will finalize your housing intentions with the Corps of Cadets.
Please review the housing contract as it is for the entire academic year (fall and spring semester) or for the remainder of the current academic year if the contract is signed after the start of the fall semester. When submitted by paper or electronically, the housing contract becomes a legal binding contract and there are financial penalties for breaking the housing contract.
If for any reason you decide to resign from the Corps of Cadets during the term of the housing contract, you must continue to reside on campus in the civilian dormitories. Failure to do so will result in a breach of the housing contract and your $300 housing deposit will be forfeited.
A student must be enrolled in at least nine (9) credit hours at Texas A&M University or is enrolled in the Blinn TEAM in order to maintain housing eligibility.
On-campus housing does not renew automatically. All cadet residents will be required to participate in the housing renewal process (referred to as "Housing Decision") at the end of February or start of March. It is during the "Housing Decision" process that current cadet residents will identify their housing needs for the upcoming academic year. Participation in "Housing Decision" is mandatory and failure to complete the process may result in forfeiture of the housing deposit and loss of housing eligibility.
There is no deadline to cancel a housing application. However, once a space has been offered and a housing contract has bee signed by the student, cancellation deadlines must be met for the housing deposit to be returned. The deadline dates for cancellation of the contract are listed on the housing contract received by the student. Requests to cancel the housing reservation must be made in person or in writing to Corps Housing or the Department of Residence Life - Housing Assignments Office by the student on or before:
Returning Students (Fall Semester)
- April 1 -- 100% deposit refund ($300)
- April 2 - April 15 -- 75% deposit refund ($225)
- April 16 - May 1 -- 50% deposit refund ($150)
- May 2 - May 15 -- 25% deposit refund ($75)
- After May 15 -- Deposit will not be refunded
New Students (Fall Semester)
- August 1 -- 100% deposit refund ($300)
- August 15 -- 75% deposit refund ($225)
- August 30 -- 50% deposit refund ($150)
- After August 30 -- Deposit will not be refunded
New Students (Spring Semester)
- October 31 -- 100% deposit refund ($300)
- November 1 - November 30 -- 50% deposit refund ($150)
- December 1 - December 30 -- 25% deposit refund ($75)
- After December 30 -- Deposit will not be refunded
Please remember the housing contract is for a full academic year (fall and spring semesters). Any cancellation for a spring semester by fall on-campus residents will result in a forfeiture of the entire housing deposit. In addition, any cancellation for the spring semester not outlined in the exemptions listed on the housing contract will be subject to a charge equal to 50% of the spring semester's rent. Exceptions will be made only for students who will graduate at the end of the fall semester, participating in the Cooperative Education Program, Student Teaching Program (not in the Bryan-College Station area), Study Abroad Program, medical withdrawals or academically blocked students.
Students who cancel their contracts and move off-campus for the spring semester will lose their entire $300 housing deposit and be billed 50% of the spring semester's rent. No exceptions will be made.
Dorm, Dorm Room and Roommate Assignments
Unlike incoming freshmen students applying for housing in the civilian dormitories, incoming freshmen cadets will not know their dormitory, dorm room and roommate assignment until the day they report for Freshmen Orientation Week (FOW). Assignment of housing and roommates is overseen by the incoming freshman cadet's Unit Commander.
Any and all room or roommate changes must be coordinated by the Unit Commander under specific guidelines established by Corps Housing.
Permanent and Temporary Housing Space Offers
A permanent space offer of housing means the student is being offered a space in one of the dormitories. A temporary housing space offer means that the student is being offered a space in a study room, a lounge, or will be a third person in a regular two-person room on a temporary basis. As space becomes available through cancellations and resignations, temporary assignments will be relocated to permanent spaces. Although it is rare for cadets to be assigned in temporary housing in the Corps dormitories, the total amount of space available for cadet housing is dictated by the overall size of the Corps of Cadets.
Room rent is charged per semester and may be paid either in full prior to the beginning of classes or through an installment plan of three (3) payments (1/2, 1/4 and 1/4). Students will choose a payment plan during registration each semester.
Housing fees including rent are billed by the Financial Management Services Office and are included with other student fees after the student has registered for classes.
Payment deadlines are established by the Financial Management Services Office. If a student cancels a room reservation under one of the exemptions listed in the housing contract, the refund of the room rent will be made according to the following refund schedule, which is subject to change:
- 100% room rent if cancellation occurs prior to 1st class day
- 80% room rent if cancellation occurs during the 1st five class days
- 70% room rent if cancellation occurs during the 2nd five class days
- 50% room rent if cancellation occurs during the 3rd five class days
- 25% room rent if cancellation occurs during the 4th five class days
- No refund if cancellation occurs after the 4th week of classes
For security reasons, the exterior doors of each Corps dormitory are locked 24 hours a day. The exterior door security schedule is established through a partnership between the current Corps Commander and Corps Housing. The schedule may be altered as required including but not limited to home game weekends and move-out. Cadet residents can enter their assigned dormitory using their student ID card.
Cadet residents will enter their assigned room using the room key assigned. Cadet residents will be charged $45.00 if they lose their room key.
Unlike the civilian dormitories, the Corps dormitories have a unique visitation policy. Per The Standard, the visitation policy is as follows:
(1) All cadets residing in or visiting in a cadet dormitory are responsible for knowing the visitation rules and regulations and hours of visitation that apply to that dormitory. The cadet is responsible for his/her guest's conduct.
(2) Non-Corps guests of cadets are not permitted in the Corps dorms, including doorways and hallways, other than during visitation hours.
(3) Cadets must observe the following visitation restrictions: A guest is a visitor of either gender, not in the Corps, unless on Corps business. Group study sessions may be considered Corps business. (Note: A non-Corps guest of the same gender is still considered a guest and visitation policies fully apply.) Corps dorm visitation hours are:
- Weekdays - NONE
- Fridays - 5:00pm – 2:00am (SAT)
- Saturdays - 10:00am – 2:00am (SUN)
- Sundays - 10:00am – 6:00pm
- Redefined Days, Dead Days, and Finals – 10:00am – 2:00am (FOLLOWING DAY)
(4) The civilian co-ed residence halls have visitation hours determined by vote of the residents. The single sex halls are only open for visitors from 9:00am – 2:00am. Cadets will not violate the visitation hours of any residence hall. During visitation hours, all cadets and their guests, who are in the hallways, must be dressed as if they are in public areas.
(5) Commanders will report any visitation violations of non-corps individuals to the Commandant's Duty Officer through the Guard Room (845-6789) or the appropriate CTO.
Cadets should also reference The Standard for further information regarding the visitation policy.
In addition to the stated visitation policy, the Office of the Commandant reserves the right to deny entry of an individual into a specific Corps dorm or facility if the occupants of the facility believe the individual's presence places their welfare at risk.
Residents of dormitories controlled by the Department of Residence Life that are in violation of the Corps' visitation policy will be reported to the department via IRTS.
Telephone Services, ResNet (Internet) Connections and Cable Television
Telephone Service
Beginning with the fall semester of 2008, telephone service will no longer be automatically provided in the residence halls and Corps dormitories. So that adequate phone service will be available for personal or emergency use, students will have access to a “public hallway phone” on every floor of every building. In the Corps dormitories, the “public hallway phone” is located in the stairwell.
Over the last few years, the Department of Residence Life (http://reslife.tamu.edu) has found that most students use cellular phone service as their sole/primary voice communication with family and friends. Surveys completed in the fall of 2006 show over 97% of students have cell phones. It seems the need for land line service has declined to such a point that it is no longer necessary, or fiscally responsible, for the Department of Residence Life to spend approximately $800,000 per year on services students use infrequently. Eliminating local land line phone service in student rooms is a sound fiscal decision that will allow the University to reduce operating costs, thereby minimizing rate increases passed along to residents.

Internet Service
Internet service in the Corps dormitories is provided by Computing & Information Services (CIS) (http://cis.tamu.edu).
Each Corps dorm room is fitted with two (2) network ports (also referred to as Ethernet jacks). Each port is connected to a router in the building that connects directly to the ResNet server, which provides high-speed Internet access as well as access to Texas A&M University computing resources.
To connect to ResNet, you will need a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet card (also known as a NIC or network interface card) and an RJ-45 Ethernet cable. Ninety-nine percent (99%) of all computers being sold (desktops and notebooks/laptops—personal computers and Macs) come with a built-in Ethernet card (or NIC). The location of this card on your unit varies and you should refer to the owner’s manual that came with your unit. RJ-45 Ethernet cables vary in length (you will need at least 6 feet of cable) and can be purchased in any retail store including but not limited to Circuit City, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target and Lowe’s.

Cable Television
Although each cadet room is fitted with a cable television connection, television is not a privilege afforded to freshmen and sophomore cadets. Those who are permitted television privileges should visit http://reslife.tamu.edu/current/cabletv for more information about services and channels offered.
Contacting Your Cadet (Non-Emergency)

Student Health Services (located at the A.P. Beutel Health Center) is an ambulatory health care provider serving the Texas A&M University student body by providing health care services and promoting health through prevention and education. It does not provide major hospitalization or treatment outside of the clinic.
Students registered at Texas A&M University who paid the mandatory Group Hospital and Medical Services Fee are entitled to receive services. Basic services provided by Student Health Services include: Medical Clinic, Dial-A-Nurse, Physical Therapy, Immediate Care, EMS/Ambulance Service, Radiology, Preventative Medicine, Health Education, Women’s Clinic, Specialty Clinics, Laboratory, Triage, and Pharmacy.
For charges not covered by the mandatory health fee or for treatment by other health care providers, health insurance is recommended. Some sources of health insurance are group insurance coverage through employment, parent’s or guardian's health insurance, a student’s individual policy or the Student Health Insurance Policy.
The University endorses a Student Health Insurance Policy underwritten by the UniCare Life and Health Insurance Company. All registered and enrolled Texas A&M University System students and their eligible dependents may enroll in this insurance plan. You may want to compare your current coverage with this policy when considering health insurance. This policy may be useful when: (1) A student reaches the age of attainment on a parent's policy and no longer covered or; (2) A student gets married or; (3) A student becomes legally independent or; (4) A student is studying abroad.
The Student Health Insurance Policy is available for purchase locally through Dunlap Financial Services. Cadets interested in purchasing the Student Health Insurance Policy should call Dunlap Financial Services at (979) 260-9632. Cadets are encouraged to review the policy information available at http://www.tamuinsurance.com and http://www.tamugsiplan.com.
For further clarification, please contact the Student Health Center Insurance Services at (979) 458-8310 or via email at insurance@shs.tamu.edu.
Texas A&M University does not carry insurance on student’s belongings, and is not responsible for damage to or theft of any personal property in campus residence hall rooms or University Apartments (see Housing or Rental Contract). Therefore, the Department of Residence Life and Corps Housing strongly encourages students to either:
1. Make arrangements with their parent’s or guardian’s homeowners insurance company to insure coverage for personal belongings or;
2. Purchase a personal articles floater policy or;
3. Purchase separate renters insurance. In some instances, a parent’s or guardian’s homeowners insurance will cover damage to property in a state owned facility (such as a residence hall or University Apartment), but this is not a universal truth. Consult with your parents or guardians and their insurance agent to decide whether or not personal belongings in residence halls are already covered, or if coverage can be added to the existing policy. While reviewing coverage, be sure to review any applicable deductibles. If not covered, or if coverage cannot be added, ask the insurance agent about purchasing a separate renters insurance policy or personal articles floater policy.
Renters insurance has coverage similar to homeowners insurance, and is very affordable. Texas A&M University does not endorse any particular insurance company; however, research has shown that most independent insurance companies can find an underwriter that will write renters insurance policies for residence hall rooms and university apartments.
Per University Rule, a student may make a request for monetary reimbursement arising from alleged personal injury or property damage. This is called a “tort claim.” For complete information on the tort claim process, refer to University Rule 09.04.99.M0.01 (Tort Settlements in Lieu of Litigation) at http://rules-saps.tamu.edu/PDFs/09.04.99.M0.01.pdf.
For further clarification, please contact the Assistant Director for Residence Life Risk Management at (979) 862-3158.
In addition to the information provided on this page and throughout the Corps Housing web site, all cadet residents should familiarize themselves with the Cadet Resident Handbook.
The Cadet Resident Handbook is issued and enforced in conjunction with The Standard, Policy & Procedures Guide, Texas A&M University – Rules and Regulatory Compliance, and Texas A&M University – Student Rules. In addition to this handbook, cadets should also familiarize themselves with the housing contract.
