Fall 2009 Closing Information

  • The Corps dormitories will officially close for winter break at 1:00pm on Saturday, December 19, 2009
  • Cadets should leave the dormitory within 24 hours following their last final exam
    • ALL CADETS MUST VACATE THE DORMITORIES BEFORE 1:00PM ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 19
      • The Corps dormitories will close at exactly 1:00pm and all card access will be disabled. NO ONE will be permitted to remain in the dormitories after closing
  • CDO and Guard Room operations will cease at 12:00pm on Wednesday, December 16
  • The University will close at 5:00pm on Tuesday, December 22 and will not open until 8:00am on Monday, January 4, 2010
    • There is a possibility that Corps Housing may close as early as 12:00pm on Tuesday, December 22
  • Corps Housing staff will be inspecting all rooms to ensure buildings are secure and that guidelines have been followed
    • Failure to follow guidelines may result in charges
    • Any room problems (broken windows, broken locks, water leaks, etc.) should be reported immediately through the work order process at http://corpshousing.tamu.edu or by contacting Corps Housing at 845-3443 during business hours (Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm)
      • DO NOT wait until the last day of finals to report maintenance issues especially those related to broken windows, broken locks and water leaks
  • If you are taking a winter mini-mester, please visit Corps Housing.  Be prepared to provide a copy of your mini-mester schedule.
  • CADETS WHO LEARN DURING THE BREAK THAT THEY WILL NOT BE RETURNING for the spring semester need to cancel their housing contract with Corps Housing in writing
    • The cancellation letter must be sent to Corps Housing at: Corps Lounge A, 1474 TAMU, College Station , TX 77843-1474. The cancellation can also be faxed to Corps Housing at (979) 845-9167.  Simply telling Corps Housing staff or the Fiscal Office that you are not returning will not cancel your housing contract
      • Cadets not returning for the spring semester must return between January 4-14 during business hours (8:00am-5:00pm) to begin the Corps resignation process and remove all personal belongings from the dormitory
      • If you already know during the fall semester that you are not returning for the spring semester, you must visit Corps Housing before the last day of fall semester finals to complete the necessary paper work
        • You must completely vacate the dormitory prior to the dorm closing date of December 19, 2009
  • Storage of personal property and possessions in rooms during the break is at your own risk
    • The University is not responsible for items stolen or damaged during winter break. It is strongly encouraged that items of significant value be taken home during this time period. Additionally, belongings should not be left on the floor in the event of flooding
  • Motorcycles and mopeds cannot be stored in your room. You may leave your bicycle in your room

ACTION ITEMS FOR ALL CADETS

  • You do not need to move all of your belongings out
    • Take only what you will need for winter break including items of significant value
    • Cadets will not be permitted to enter a dormitory after it has officially closed
  • Quad access will be available from 8:30am-3:00pm, December 7-11 and December 14-18
    • There is no Quad access during the weekends
    • A Quad access permit must be acquired from Corps Housing prior to driving onto the Quad
      • Permits will not be issued after 3:00pm and all vehicles must clear the Quad by 4:00pm. Cadets should visit http://corpshousing.tamu.edu to review information regarding Quad access
  • Odd Number Cadets (ONC) must make sure half of the room is clearly available and clean for possible assignment
  • Unplug all electrical appliances including answering machines, alarm clocks, refrigerators, and aquariums
  • Unplug, empty, defrost and dry refrigerators; leave doors open to avoid mildew
    • Failure to dispose of any perishable or opened food will result in a minimum $17.95 charge
  • All windows (including stairwell windows) must be closed and locked
    • Cadets should lower and close their blinds
  • Set thermostat dial to the 12 o'clock position and the fan on low
  • Take all newspapers to the dumpsters or to the recycling bins in the Commons Lobby
    • Do not leave newspapers stacked in the hallways for the custodians as billings may result.
  • Do not sweep trash into hallways. Place all trash in the nearest receptacle. If that container is full, place the trash in the nearest dumpster. Failure to remove trash from your room could result in billing.
  • Your Commander may ask you to assist with ensuring hallways, building exterior and restrooms meet the standards for fire safety, cleanliness and appearance.
  • All holiday decorations must be removed by the first day of finals.
  • Nothing, including lofts and furniture, should be blocking the heating/AC units
    • In case a problem develops during the break, maintenance may need easy access to this area. Pipes have been known to break during extreme cold weather and emergency maintenance response will be delayed if access to the heating/AC unit is blocked.
    • Make sure speakers, computers, and other valuables are off the floor before you leave.
  • Turn off the lights in your room when you leave
  • All cadets must lock their doors
    • Take your room key with you
  • When you return in January, you must check in with your Commander/Housing Officer.
