SUMMER HOUSING & SUMMER RECRUITING COMPANY (SRC)

Information regarding housing for the SRC is up-to-date as of May 21, 2008. All information is considered tentative at this time and is subject to change without notice.

For summer 2008, the SRC will be housed in Dorm 2 (Kiest Hall). With the exception of the SRC, the Corps of Cadets is not in operation during the summer. Corps Housing does not offer storage or housing of any kind for cadets not participating in the SRC.

Cadets not participating in the SRC, but plan to stay in the local area over the summer should arrange for their own housing. If these cadets are enrolled for summer courses at Texas A&M University, they may contact the Department of Residence Life for summer on-campus housing information.

Cadets that plan to live off-campus must be sure to compare the lease ending date with the official fall semester move-in calendar for the Corps of Cadets. Corps Housing will not accommodate requests for early move-in due to lease expirations.

Every spring semester, outfit commanders designate certain outfit members to participate in the SRC on behalf of the outfit. The Corps Recruiting Office approves membership in the SRC. To apply to participate, please contact LTC Rod Matte at 979-458-1412 or at jmatte@corps.tamu.edu.

Housing registration received after the deadline will not be processed. Housing cancellations must be made in person at Corps Housing during normal business hours. It is also the responsibility of the cadet to update Corps Housing on any changes in housing status including but not limited to changes in summer session attendance.

1 Interim Housing - You may choose to stay in the dorm for all or part of the interim periods, or you may choose to just leave your things and effectively use the room for storage. The charge is still a flat rate regardless of the type or duration of use. Interim housing is only available to cadets approved to participate in the SRC.

2 Housing Rent Discount - Corps Recruiting is allocated by the University a fixed number of housing rent discounts to provide to members of the SRC. When applied, the discount reduces the rent to $393.00 per session. If the number of members admitted into the SRC is less than or equal to the allocated number of discounts, then all members may receive the discount. If the number of members is greater than the allocated number of discounts, Corps Recruiting may designate a set of primary recruiters to receive the discount while other SRC members would pay full price. Cadets receiving a housing discount must be present and actively involved with the SRC for the session in which the discount was awarded in order to maintain the discount. Interim housing rates are not discounted. Prior to the start of each summer session, Corps Housing will provide the Department of Residence Life the names of cadets scheduled to receive the housing rent discount. To determine if you have been designated to receive a discount, please contact the SRC Commander or the Corps Recruiting Office.

3 Paid Single Room (Private Room) - Paid single room (private room) is based on room availability after occupation. If available, the cost will be 1.5 times the rent (an additional $262.00 on top of the $524.00 per session). Corps Housing reserves the right to limit the total number of paid single rooms per session.

Housing Application

Cadets approved to participate in the SRC should complete the summer housing application (above) or visit Corps Housing beginning at 8:00am on April 10, 2008.

To alter or partially cancel your housing registration (i.e., to change from Summer I to Summer II or to remain signed up for a main session but cancel interim housing, etc.), complete and submit another on-line application; your new application will overwrite the previous one and your preferences will be recorded. Please refer to the application schedule available in the “General Information” section of this document. You may also visit Corps Housing for assistance.

To completely cancel your housing registration for the summer, please visit Corps Housing or contact the office via telephone at (979) 845-3443 or via email at housing@corps.tamu.edu. Students who cancel their summer housing are refunded based on the following schedule:

  • Cancel and vacate before the first day of classes (100%)
  • Cancel and vacate on the first, second or third day of classes (80%)
  • Cancel and vacate on the fourth, fifth or sixth day of classes (50%)
  • Cancel and vacate on the seventh class day or thereafter (None)

Students who are "no shows" (registered for SRC housing, but never showed up to check into a room) may be billed, but will not forfeit their housing deposit so long as they maintain a signed housing contract for the 2008-2009 Academic Year. If you are not able to move-in or no longer wish to reside in Dorm 2 (Kiest Hall), you must advise Corps Housing as soon as possible so we can assist you with removing the charge.

Room Assignment & Occupation Information

The SRC Commander and/or Housing Officer will be responsible for room assignments for all the SRC cadets. Unlike housing in the fall and spring semesters, room assignments will primarily be based on gender integrity. Assignments based on ROTC affiliation, major unit, outfit or class is not guaranteed. To verify your room, please contact the SRC Commander or the Housing Officer.

Cadets should become familiar with the following information:

  1. It is the policy of Corps Housing during the summer that all lofts remain assembled. Regardless of class, all cadets will maintain the standard room configuration (beds arranged in L-shape configuration) and the heating/AC access panel will not be blocked. Corps Housing will conduct dorm room inspections as deemed necessary. All furniture must remain in the room. Cadets will be billed for missing or damaged furniture at the current replacement rate.
  2. Cadets will not use "heel and sole". Cadets will be billed for damaged or vandalized furniture. Extensive damage or vandalism will result in immediate dismissal of the cadet from the SRC, ordered out of the dormitory and be assessed for the damage/vandalism. In addition, the cadet will be issued five restricted weekends to be served immediately upon the start of the fall 2008 semester.
  3. Cadets should continue to utilize the on-line maintenance request.
  4. Any and all room changes taking place during the summer must be in accordance to Corps Housing's room change procedures.
  5. Empty rooms will not be occupied or used for storage. Corps Housing reserves the right to remove and/or dispose of any items found in empty rooms during inspections.
  6. Odd Number Cadets, regardless of military or unit affiliation or class, will consolidate so long as they are the same gender. Cadets refusing to consolidate will be billed the paid single rate.
  7. Cadets must be in compliance with Corps Housing's appliance policy. The maximum refrigerator and microwave combination is one (1) refrigerator and one (1) microwave. Cadets should review details regarding appliances in the dorms.
  8. Cadets utilizing bicycles may store the bicycle in their room, but it cannot be mounted onto the walls. Bicycles cannot be placed in the hallway, restrooms or vending room. Bicycle racks are available at Corps Lounge B. Use of lounge posts to secure bicycles will not be permitted.
  9. Cadets will be required to observe and maintain the visitation policy established by the Office of the Commandant as outlined in The Standard.
  10. All policies and procedures published by Corps Housing (Cadet Resident Handbook), the Office of the Commandant (The Standard and Policies & Procedures Guide) and Texas A&M University will be followed.

Cadets who fail to follow proper procedure will be assessed accordingly. Ensuring that the room is clean, returning your key and signing the Move-In/Move-Out Record are just some items that cadets forget to do, which results in an administrative billing of "Failure to Clear" or "Failure to Return Key."

Quad Access – Quad Access is regulated by Corps Housing with assistance provided from Transportation Services. Please review the "Quad Access Enforcement" information on the Corps Housing web site as well as on http://cadets.tamu.edu. You should also refer to the calendars provided by Corps Housing.*

Prior to moving in any belongings, you must be checked into the room (have the room inspected and the condition documented) and be issued a key by either the Summer Recruiting Company Commander or Housing Officer.
